This is the future site of St. Anne’s upon Mahanaim. Pardon the mess and watch-out for the open trenches, we’re still under construction. Here’s the situation:

For the past 3 years I have been blogging almost every week over at the parish blog at AllSaintsHonolulu, the church where I serve as rector. It has been a collection of shorter assays, reflections, things that didn’t make it into the sermon notes but have some posting merit, theological directions for the liturgical season, book reviews, etc.

This has born some good fruit: a small following of mainland readers, donors to the mission of All Saints have had a touchpoint with what’s going-on in the rector’s study, Peter Leithart quoted it once in his God of Hope, a few people have found their way into our parish life by way of the blog. Blessed be the Lord.

But there is a season for everything, and what began as a kind of personal discipline, which sounded something like “I will write a blog on the parish website each week, vacations and high feats days excepted,” has become an undifferentiated pile of entries mounded-up in cyberspace. Our parish, moreover, has grown considerably since I started blogging and the exigencies of our parish-blogroll have changed.

We now have increasingly two distinct purposes for a blog, even if there may be some cross-over among the audience: (1) regular theological guidance on parish happenings (e.g. “And here’s how to prepare for the Feast of the Holy Sovereigns this weekend, which we will be having at Ala Moana beach park…”); (2) me continuing to write the kind of things I’ve been writing which don’t fit into the constraints of the first category (e.g. “The symbolism of the Tiger being the beast who kills Fairy Hardcastle during the Banquet at Belbury…”).

St. Anne’s upon Mahanaim marks a shift in response to these increasingly distinct —but not separate— purposes. The parish blogroll will continue to be released every Monday over at AllSaintsHonolulu, and St. Anne’s (this place) will host my other writing.

The open trenches will be filled-in once the pipes are laid-down, the walls handsomely erected with good dry-stacked stone, and the windows set in-place. Be patient with these early draughts, for the good wine is —as it always is— served later. Thank you for your visit and your patience.
